Weddings and Tours

Title - Weddings and Tours
Pairing - Pete/Gabe
Rating - PG
Summary - Gabe calls Pete from the tour to congratulate him on the wedding.
Warnings - uh, Simpson bashing? No, seriously, there isn't even any cussing in this, which is shocking for me.
Disclaimer - Not real, never happened.
A/N - First time I've written either of these boys, so feel free to tell me what I did wrong. Inspired by this video.

Pete felt his phone vibrate in his pocket, and stepped away from Ashlee’s family to talk. Really, he was kinda glad that he had an excuse, because they just didn’t know how to shut up.

“Hello?” he said. Silence greeted him on the other end. “Hey, who’s there?” He tilted the phone back to check. “Gabe? What’s up?”

“I, uh,” Gabe took a deep breath. “Shit, I guess I just wanted to say, congratulations.”

“Thanks man. I wish you could’ve been here.”

“Yeah, ‘cause that wouldn’t have been awkward at all,” Gabe said with a laugh. Pete could tell he was rolling his eyes on the other end.

“Well, still, you know?”

“Yeah, I know.”

They both stayed silent for a moment. “So, uh,” Pete said, trying to ease the tension. “How’s the tour going?”

“Oh, you know. Same old, same old. The shows are awesome, the hang overs and lack of showers isn’t.”

“Right,” Pete replied. They fell into silence again.

“So, I guess I’ll just let you go then. I really should get back to the party,” Pete said.

“Yeah, okay. Just, one more thing?”

“What?”

“Do you ever wonder how it might’ve been? You know, if you and Ashlee hadn’t hit it off, if we could’ve had a chance?”

Pete sighed. “There’s no point in thinking about it, because it’s not gonna happen.”

“Yeah, yeah, you’re right. Sorry. I’ll talk to you later, okay?”

“Sure. Bye.”

“Bye.”

Pete hung up the phone and wandered back over to the reception. Patrick walked over and stood next to him.

“Still gonna stick with the straight edge thing?” he asked. “Because, you know, if that was who I think it was, nobody would fault you for drinking a little tonight.”

Pete shook his head. “Naw, I’ll make it through.”

They stood next to each other for a moment, watching the crowd. “Oh, God,” Patrick said, “I’m sorry to leave you on your own, but Jessica’s walking over this way, and I just can’t listen to her talk without wanting to rip my ears off.”

“It’s cool. She’s my sister-in-law now, I guess I should probably learn how to deal with her.”

Patrick nodded. “Well, remember what I said though. Little stress relief never hurt anyone.” He patted Pete on the shoulder and walked away, leaving him with a sour look on his face.
